Abstract
We encountered a case of acute gastric mucosal lesion that developed after upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The patient was a 37-year-old male. Four days after undergoing endoscopy of the upper gastrointestine at a medical checkup clinic, he was seized with abrupt, severe pain in the upper abdomen, and came to this hospital for further examination. Endoscopy was again performed. This time, shallow, shiny ulcerations of the hemorrhagic and multiple types were detected around the antrum. Fasting, replenishers, and antiulcer drug therapy led to nearly complete recovery (except for a slight scar) after one week later. In recent years, this type of ulceration has tended to increase due to the popular practice of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. At present, H. P. infections are thought to be the major causative factor in the pathogenesis of these ulcers. This demands that scrupulous care be taken in washing and disinfecting the endoscope.
