Abstract
We report results of selective nerve root block for treatment of 35 cases of lumbar spinal canal stenosis and lumbar disc hernia. The response to treatment was judged by Japan Orthopaedic Association score. Nerve root block produced improvements in subjective symptoms and activities of daily life. Remisson was acheived in 30 cases. Nerve root block was more effective for treatment of spinal canal stenosis than for disc hernia and was more effective for relief of radicular symptoms than for other symptoms. Operation was required in five cases. Nerve root block is a useful conservative therapy for cases in which operation is indicated.
