Abstract
This article reports, for the first time, the nerve fiber composition of the human lemniscus medialis. This nerve fiber bundle is a part of the pathways of the posterior funiculus-medial lemniscus system to convey deep sensations; vibratory or discriminative touch sensation. There have been no data so far regarding nerve fibers due to the limitation in preparing sections. We adopted a new method for secondary fixation and for embedding to evaluate the size differences of nerve fibers in the human lemniscus medialis in which there are at least two kinds of nerve fibers, thick and thin fibers. However, the connections and functions of the nerve fibers have not been known up to now.
