The falls in the elderly are known to occur frequently during walking or standing-up of daily life situation. When the elderly is going to rise up from a chair, they tend to fall down forward or backward at the moment of standing-up. The new knowledge and strategies based on the previous results about the environment change of standing-up, have been applied to the medical/nursing care and rehabilitation.In this study, when the elderly with the instability of standing-up uprises at the “fastest” or “slowest” velocity, the balance ability in the longitudinal direction at the moment of seat-off was examined by using the relationship among COG-heel distance, COG-horizontal velocity, and the floor reaction force. Finally the followings were obtained. (1)When the elderly with the forward-instability attempted to uprise quickly, the COG shifted excessively forward and the component of horizontal force increased. (2)When the elderly with the backward-instability attempted to uprise quickly, he tended to uprise using the component of vertical force, leaving the COG backwards. When he uprose slowly, it tended to become difficult to control the COG horizontal velocity.
