Abstract
Recently, research of the regenerative medicine has attracted much attention and culture techniques of the muscle cell (C2C12) have also been progressed. In this study, effect of Grayanotoxins (GTXs) to the cultured myoblast C2C12 from mouse skeletal muscle is investigated.Grayanotoxins (GTXs) belong to neurotoxins are known to enhance the permeability of a cell membrane for Na+ ions. Grayanotoxins are extracted from a famous Pieris japonica and Ericaceae as a phytotoxin. The functional role of GTXs in muscle cells (C2C12) contraction and membrane potential was investigated. As a result of the experiments, the resting membrane potential was affected by the GTXs and decreased . Strong correlation was observed between the resting membrane potential change and the GTX acute toxicity. This result is indicating a possibility of application of the cultured muscle as a phytotoxin sensor.
