Abstract
Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) films have many unique properties for biomaterials, such as biocompatibility, blood compatibility and the stability in the human body. Therefore, DLC films are expected as surface modification coating of biomaterials and some reports are reviewed about cytotoxicity of DLC films. In the medical field, an effective cure for the bone fracture treatment attracts attention with the aging progress. A function of osteoblastic cells are very important for the reproduction of bones. Recently, an activity of zinc (Zn) ions on reproduction of bones is widely known. However, biomaterials with Zn content have not been developed yet in implant materials. In order to develop biomaterials with reproduction activity, we prepared the Zn-doped DLC films. The Zn-doped DLC films are investigated for activity of cells and antibacterial property. It was found that cell viability by cell culture of Osteoblasts derived from a mouse calvarium (MC3T3-E1) in DMEM as a function of the volume of Zn ions. States of cell culture in the DMEM were observed by an optical microscopy.
