Abstract
Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) that enables direct communication pathway between the brain and an external device has been considerable interest in recent years. We focused on the BCI using event-related potential (ERP). Especially, P300 component commonly used in ERPs was analyzed in various conditions. First, we investigated the influence of the difficulty in auditory oddball task on the amplitude and latency of P300. The amplitude represents the confidence in the stimulus, while the latency represents the processing speed for the stimulus. As the task is easier, the amplitude of P300 is larger and the latency is shorter. Next, we examined the oddball task using both visual and auditory stimuli simultaneously. We confirmed that the amplitude of P300 for visual and auditory stimuli increased, and the latency significantly shorten compared with that for only visual or auditory stimulus. It is thought that the visual and auditory stimuli made the task ease. In conclusion, visual and auditory stimuli would be suitable for practical BCI application.
