Abstract
Articular cartilage is a fiber reinforced soft material with plenty of fluid content. This construction effectively promotes the biphasic lubrication mode, which realizes ultra low friction. A new material for articular cartilage made of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) hydrogel have been researched in aiming superior frictional properties of synovial joint system. In this report, a fiber reinforced PVA hydrogel was proposed to generate biphasic lubrication mode. A tiny MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) pressure sensor was utilized to capture in situ pressure in rubbing surfaces. The fiber reinforced PVA hydrogel used in this study effectively promoted the fluid pressure.
