Abstract
For the purpose to monitor the physiologic parameters of home care patients from their attendant doctors and/or nurses, we developed the real-time monitoring system of the home care patients using the RF-ECG (GM3 Co., Ltd, Tokyo, Japan) which measure and transmit an electrocardiogram, body surface temperature and three-dimensional acceleration. We are developing a new function that estimate respiratory rate by monitoring thoracic up-and-down motion using three-dimensional accelerometer, and confirmed that the fluctuation of three-dimensional acceleration data provided by Fourier transform and/or band pass filtering showed a breathing period in sitting position. In this study, we measured the respiratory rate by counting frequency from the difference of temperature of intake and expiration using thermistor, compared it with the estimated respiratory rate by accelerometer and found satisfactory agreement in these two data in sitting position.
