Mental health disorders are widespread, imposing a dual burden on society through diminished productivity and reduced personal well-being. Regrettably, these conditions are often stigmatized as weaknesses rather than recognized as legitimate illness often leaving individuals and families to manage on their own. However, the emergence of treatment options, such as antidepressants, has enabled psychiatrists to assist patients suffering from depression. Depression represents just one of the many mental disorders; further research into other conditions is imperative to expand treatment options. As scientists, we require tools capable of probing the brains of living patients. Non-invasive brain imaging offers a glimpse into the workings of the brain, offering hope for enhanced understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses.
