Although diagnostic techniques in opthalmology mostly rely on optical technology, some techniques of medical electronics are applicable to ophthalmology. The application may be divided into the following classes : 1) intraocular pressure and retinal blood pressure measurements, 2) use of ultrasonics for the measurement of the dimension of the eye and the use of electronic computer for the optical and statistical calculation in refraction study, and 3) use of ME for retinal function; ERG, EOG and retinal reflectance measurement in visual and infrared region, and 4) VEP, EMG and other problems. Clinical implication of the experimental results obtained in the author's laboratory on 1), 2) and 3) were presented.
