Abstract
Food waste accounts for more than 40 percent in municipal solid waste, so there is a strong need of recycling it for reduction of waste and resource recovery. Methane fermentation and composting are main biological treatment of organic waste. While the former is attracting attention as energy recovery process, composting is a traditional technology for various kind of waste. However, systematic study has not been performed so far. In this study, we focus on mass balance in various composting facilities in which main material is food waste.
