Abstract
IGCC(Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) technology is known as the alternative to conventional pulverized coal power plant, because it can meet the future stringent environmental regulations and maintain higher efficiency.1 IGCC research and development works have being performed by KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute), IAE(Institute for Advanced Engineering) etc. since 1992 in Korea. These days the Korea Government decided to build up a 300 MW-size coal IGCC plant by 2015. In this study, Kideco subbituminous coal was gasified under the operating conditions(8 bar and 1450 oC) in the bench scale entrained coal gasifier having the treatment capacity of 3 t-coal/day operating by IAE. So this paper mainly described some characteristics of solid materials sampled in the 3t/d coal gasification system to get engineering informations for developing basic technologies of coal gasifier. The basic physical and chemical properties of the above coal sample were analyzed. In addition ultimate analysis and particle size distribution of solid materials sampled from several points of the above coal gasifier system were carried out to investigate the behavior of solid samples formed during the operation of gasifier.
