Multizonal thermodynamic equilibrium calculations were adapted to predict the behavior of Cs in municipal solid waste incinerations. Mineralogical composition of the incineration bottom and fly ashes were calculated and compared with the mineral phases found in most literature data obtained from the ash analyses. The calculated mineral phases and those by ash analyses agreed fairly well, suggesting that the calculation can be used to estimate the behavior of elements in incineration. Cs was found to exist mainly as CsCl in fly ash, and alumino-silicates or non-crystalline phases in bottom ash. The effects of incinerator temperature and operational conditions were examined.
