Abstract

Energy is essential for human life and social development. In recent years, world energy consumption has been increasing year by year against the backdrop of global economic growth. At this time, the technology of energy recovery from biomass becomes an important issue for the realization of a sustainable society. On the other hand, since the biomass has a high oxygen content, the calorific value is lower than that of fossil resources, and gasification at low temperature is desirable for efficient energy recovery. However, gasification at low temperatures is likely to lead to the generation of tar that causes pipe blockage and operation failures. It is necessary to improve tar control technology based on elucidation of the properties and components of tar. In this study, the relationship between the main parameters such as temperature, ER (oxygen equivalent ratio), steam addition and the concentration of produced gas/tar and the effect of the catalyst were examined in the gasification process of biomass.
