Abstract

The "KAMIKURU Project" initiative using dry office paper making machine has been underway in Kitakyushu City since October 2020. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the social impact of the Camikle project using social return on investment (SROI) and to propose a methodology to assess its contribution to achieving the SDGs by utilizing SROI outcome information. SROI values were calculated using two methods, one using a monetary proxy indicator and the other using the amount of willingness to pay. The contribution of the SDGs was calculated by administering a weighted questionnaire asking about the relationship between each SROI value outcome and each SDG goal. When SROI values were calculated, it was estimated that both methods would generate approximately three times the social value for the amount invested, confirming the effectiveness of the project. And, the results of the SDG contribution assessment indicated a high level of contribution to Goal 4 and Goal 17.
