Abstract
The flow response is investigated in a vortex chamber with a central outlet, when a step signal was poured through a tangential inlet. The flow state is divided into two stages by the aid of flow visualization. The first stage corresponds to the flow with no explicit effects of vortex, and an experiment with fence to avoid vortex formation shows similar pressure curve to the first stage. In the second stage, vortex is accelerated. The curves of outlet pressure are obtained by the two stage flow model, and it is valid. The effects of outlet area, flow rate and chamber height can be explained by experiment and analyses of model.
