The strength of cylindrical shells and multilayer vessels under impact pressure loading has been studied on the results of explosion tests conducted with a composite detonator No. 6 inserted in pieces of steel pipe or steel multifold pipe filled with water. Following are the conclusions obtained by such tests. (1) A cylindrical shell is deformed under impact pressure due to the active shock energy. (2) The yield strength under high velocity deformation is not affected by cold work hardening. (3) If a multilayer vessel which is loosely fitted with the liner is loaded by impact pressure, the vessel is deformed as the total work of deformation is equivalent to the work of deformation of the single fold shell, but if the multilayer vessels are tightly fitted with liners, the shock wave is directly transmitted to the outer layer.
