Abstract
A new alloy, Fe-C-Cu-MoS_2, was developed for gear applications. Spur gears were compacted from the prealloyed powders and sintered. The contact stress-life curves have been established for both base and MoS_2 contained gears. A thin layer of lubricant film formed on the gear affects the performance.
