This paper presents a new method to determine an optimal shape by using one of coordinate transformations, the affine transformation which is a linear transformation used in variety of areas; it is used in linear programming. CAD engineering, and etc. We use the affine transformation as coordinate transformation function in shape optimization. To examine a fundamental property, we consider cantilever beam and devide it into some finite elements. We take heights of beam as design variables and calculate an optimal shape. Then, we use the affine transformation remaining optimal height to have an optimal shape of linearly transformed beam. For comparison, we calculate an optimal shape directly in the beam. We found that the shape optimization of structures with linear outline could be designed easily because affine transformation is simoly scaling, and can give the same optimal shapes.
