Abstract
Microstructure formation process is simulated by using a coupled model of phase field and cellular automaton. The whole space in two dimensions is divided into cells, and the cells in which the growth of the phase is expected are selected by the cellular automatic algorithm. Then the phase transformation in the specified local area, in which the growth is going on or expected, is simulated based on the phase field equation. In this paper, solidification from melt and the formation of polycrystalline solid is simulated. The seed of the grain is generated during simulation by using random number at a constant time interval as a function of temperature. In order to account for the difference of the grain, phase index numbers are introduced, which are attached to every nucleus when they are generated.
