This paper describes the design and performance of an interactive visualization system developed specifically for time-varying volume data from thermal flow simulations. The system uses compression to allows for better memory utilization and faster data transfer, hardware accelerated rendering to enable interactive exploration for parameters and fluid phonomenon, and an intuitive user interface to support comparative visualization. It was found that this system have enough capabilities for interactive visualization. Especially, the latest commodity hardware will accelerrate the perfomance of this system.

Steady and rapid improvement of computing technology enables a simulation with very high resolution. Demands to visualize a huge amount of volume data with internal structure and dynamic behavior increase in spite of high rendering costs and large memory occupancy. On the other hand, commodity clusters based on consumer PCs are familiar to scientists and engineers of computational sciences. This paper describes PC-based implementation of volume visualization processes for large-scale simulation data sets, aiming at the development of commodity-cluster-based visualization system. The visualization flow consists of three stages; remapping stage, transfer function stage, rendering stage. Implementation and computational performance of each stage are discussed in detail.

In this paper, a new LCA software tool (EMLCA), in which environmental load calculation, sensitivity analysis, uncertainty analysis and priority analysis are carried out, is introduced. The case study of copier is analyzed by EMLCA, the CO_2 emission and its uncertainty is calculated. The priority order of the uncertain data is identified, and the influence on LCA precision by data deficiency in the simplification is also studied.

To ensure the quality of assessment calculations for the geological disposal of high level radioactive waste, it is necessary to simulate substance transportation in the grand water under the detailed configurations. Such large-scale problems are usually computed in parallel environments. Developments of parallel analysis program require a remarkable labor and time, but it can be made easy by utilizing the plug-in function of GeoFEM. In this study, the parallel FEM analysis code for the substance transport simulator in the porous media using GeoFEM was developed.

GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) is a high-speed exclusive processor which processes drawing of 3-D CG. In this study, we "render" partial differential equations using the programmable pipeline in GPU. Since GPU is a processor which performs a screen output, Calculation and visualization are carried out simultaneously. The present method has attained the computational speed 8.5 times faster than the conventional FDM with using CPU.

The author is developing an incompressible viscous fluid analysis system (ADVENTURE_Fluid) which contains the Q1-P0 hexahedral element solver with the BTD method and matrix storage free technique and the P1-P1 tetrahedral element solver with the SUPG/PSPG stabilization method. In this paper, the author demonstrates a coupled analysis of incompressible fluid and hard sphere using the ALE method. Three mesh control strategies are compared for evaluating the efficiency and the suitability for parallel processing.

Numerical simulations of a pair of flexible wing flapping symmetrically in two-dimesional space including the effect of wing deformations elastically in response to the fluid-dynamic forces are carried out in order to investigate its contributions to the aerodynamic force production in flapping flight. A flexible wing of insect is formulated as an elastic membrane model using mass-spring with damping effect.

This paper provides a way to construct an efficient preconditioner for the total system in strongly coupled fluid-structure interaction problems in case that there is any efficient preconditioner available in each fluid and structure subdomain. In the proposed technique, each preconditioner is applied, in turn, to the unknowns on the corresponding subdomain including those on the common nodes. The stability of such a preconditioner is discussed, and the effectiveness of the proposed preconditioner is shown through numerical experiments with heart simulation.
