X-FEM is an extension method of the usual finite element method. Discontinuities of a crack surface can be defined for meshes used in ordinary FEM, and elements dependency is small. Therefore, crack propagation analysis by X-FEM is more stable than ordinary FEM. Meanwhile, it is known that it occurs as a surface crack in an actual crack, it reaches the opposite surface, becomes a penetrating crack, and propagates continuously. In this paper, we report a case of three-dimensional fatigue crack propagation analysis that progresses from a small surface crack to penetrating cracks.
