Abstract

FTMP (Field Theory of Multiscale Plasticity) is capable of reproducing deformation-induced patterning (inhomogeneous deformation fields, such as dislocation substructures) through a simple mechanism where excessive elastic strain energy is converted and/or redistributed into incompatibility tensor field-based degrees of freedom. The ongoing energy conversion and redistribution process leads to local stability/instability with positive/negative feedback loops, ultimately determining the overall stability/instability of the system that is typically reflected in stress responses. Additionally, visualizing this process offers new perspectives for evaluating multiscale modeling of materials.
