Abstract
In recent years, many approaches for zero power control of magnetic bearing system have been proposed. However, these methods are complicated and difficult because most of the methods based on nonlinear control theory. In this paper, we propose a new simple design method using linear H_∞ control theory for magnetic bearing systems. The H_∞ controller is designed regarding the electromagnetic forces as the control input, and the coil currents are calculated using nonlinear equation in real-time so that the magnetic bearings can generate the forces correspond to the output of the H_∞ controller. The effectiveness of the method is shown by experiment.
