Abstract
This study is concerned with the identification of chaotic vibration by wavelet transform technique. The time histories to be examined are from numerical simulation of the responses of a non-linear vehicle model. The results of continuous wavelet transform of the time histories with 4 types of mother wavelet, Harr, Mexcan Hat, Meyer and Morlet, are discussed. It is found that, the Morlet mother wavelet is most suitable for the identification. It is concluded that the selection of mother wavelet is necessary for the identification of chaos and with the results of wavelet transform, chaotic vibration can be identified more easily than with that of power spectra analysis when the time history has multi-frequency components.
