Abstract
Previously, a novel method to provide human tactile sensation using surface acoustic wave (SAW) is proposed. A stator transducer material (piezoelectric material) of a SAW tactile display, however, has constraint of size and shape. In this research, to solve this problem, a method is proposed to excite and propagate SAW on a non-piezoelectric material surface. Excitation and propagation of SAW on a non-piezoelectric material is realized by combination of a LiNbO_3 plate and a glass substrate. The glass transducer is applied for the active type SAW tactile display and worked successfully under the control. Additionally, to integrate tactile sensation with visual information, installation of the glass transducer on a liquid crystal display (LCD) is suggested.
