Abstract
Our purpose is to design sounds to allow the acquired blind, who have difficulty recognizing their surroundings using sounds, to recognize obstacles easily. We carried out an experiment in which subjects pointed in the direction without a wall using white canes or artificial sounds to select an appropriate sound for recognizing obstacles easily. We considered the frequency, the length of the sound and the waveform of the sound when we prepared these artificial sounds. We thereby demonstrated that they were effective methods of changing the length or the waveform of sounds but that depended on the frequency to design sounds to recognize obstacle easily.
