Abstract
A numerical analysis was attempt to clarify the piston slap phenomenon considering the effects of lubricating oil-film and the piston deformation. Oil-film is formed in the clearance between piston skirt and cylinder liner in the operating engine. The oil-film pressure was obtained by solving the Reynolds equation with the aid of numerical analysis of two dimensional piston movements. The piston skirt deformation was also calculated through FEM considering the oil-film pressure. Then the distribution of oil-film pressure on the piston skirt surface was discussed in the relation of piston movement and deformation.
