Abstract
Bump foil journal bearing is an applicant for bearing which can support a small-sized rotor of high-speed rotational machinery, such as a micro gas turbine. The bearing consists of a cylindrical smooth top foil that is supported elastically by a corrugated bump foil. The top foil deforms when the assembly preload of the bump foil is applied. This study aims at predicting the maximum bearing load capacity with the effect of the preload considered and it is cleared how strongly the design variables of the bearing affect the capacity.
