Abstract
A new device for reduction of seismic response of mechanical system is developed. The device is friction bearing which consists of upper and lower plates with spherical holes and sandwiched spherical metals. Seismic response is reduced by friction between plates and metals. A computer rack is put on the device and shaken by the shaking table. Acceleration responses on friction bearing and rack are measured. The maximum values and standard deviations of the response and the excitation are obtained. It is concluded that the repose is reduced by the proposed device.
