Abstract
The internal combustion engine sometimes encounters the cavitation erosion induced by piston slap. The impact vibration between the piston and cylinder liner generates the pressure fluctuation on the coolant side of the liner and leads to occurrence of the cavitation in the case that dynamic pressure falls below its vapor pressure. In this paper, impact vibration of cylinder liner was obtained by the simulation analysis and acoustic pressure in the cooling water passage was evaluated by BEM analysis which boundary conditions were vibratory acceleration of the cylinder liner and water jackets. The numerical analysis revealed that acoustic characteristics of the cooling water passage had dominant effect to determine the amplitude of the dynamic pressure in the water coolant induced by liner vibration.
