Abstract
This study presents the experimental and analytical results of tests on the influence of pad contact stiffness on disk-brake squeal. Pads with different surface textures and thicknesses were prepared, and the frictional interface texture under compressive load was measured. Correlations between the dynamic stiffness and the texture of the brake pad surface were examined. We used a surface-contact model to analyze the generation of squeal, which is caused by pad surface texture.
