Abstract
The liquid storage container (tank) is listed up as one of facilities which are apt to be damaged by earthquake in industrial facilities. As for earthquake damages of tanks, the sloshing phenomenon of the liquid free surface and the bulging one which is due to the interaction between the tank structure rigidity and the liquid pressure force become problems. Of these, we investigate a nonlinear sloshing. Although there are many papers which introduce the small parameter till its 3 power term for nonlinearity based the Galerkin's method in their theories, a modal approach to the nonlinear sloshing which superposes the linearized solutions using Fourier series representations is presented in the seismic response analysis on the nonlinear sloshing of a rectangular liquid storage container.
