Abstract

This paper discusses a vibration based method to assess a firmness of mango using an experimental modal analysis. We used an impulse hammer and accelerometers to measure frequency response functions of mangoes and to identify modal parameters such as vibrational mode shapes in this experiment. To consider individual differences between cultivar of mangoes, we used three varieties of mangoes, which are “Kent”, “Mahachanok”, and “Irwin” called “TAIYO NO TAMAGO”. The natural frequencies of 0S2 mode shapes were obtained by the impulse testing, resulting in firmness assessment of these mangoes, because 0S2 mode frequencies of fruit impact on its firmness.
