Abstract

The progress of communication technology makes it feasible for the system to present several kinds of information to assist drivers, however which may distract drivers gazing at the front during driving. To transmit the visual information safely, it is expected to present information in peripheral visual field of a driver. As sensitivity for the pictures in peripheral vision is different from in effective visual field, it is demanded to use pictures suitable for the perception in the peripheral visual field. The human-machine-interface for the peripheral visual field is presented and its effectiveness is examined through the driving simulator experiment. It is found the drivers can drive cars with less mental workload and smaller vision shift, while no clear difference is observed in the motions of the cars.
