Abstract

Noise generated by gearboxes can have a significant impact on the surrounding environment. Therefore, noise reduction measures are one of the most important issues to be considered when designing equipment. In this paper, we aim to reduce the sound waves of a specific frequency by using a silencer with a structure in which many tubes are arranged inside a cylinder with an aperture in the form of a spiral and inscribed inside the cylinder. The optimum shape of the silencer was simulated using commercially available software, and experiments were conducted based on the simulation results. The experimental results showed that the noise reduction was about 50% compared to the case where no silencer was used.
