Abstract

Sloshing dampers are vibration control devices that suppresses vibration by placing a container filled with liquid on a primary system and tuning the natural frequency of the liquid to the natural frequency of the system. The dampers have been used for vibration control of long-period vibration in skyscrapers and bridge main towers and has attracted attention in the field of civil engineering structures. On the other hand, in recent years, vibration attenuation for aircraft wings due to fuel sloshing has been attracting attention in the aerospace field. However, there has not been sufficient study on the case of short period of sloshing motion. In this study, the free vibration behavior of sloshing damper for vibration control of short period structures was investigated experimentally and numerically. To elucidate the behavior of the entire system, a numerical solution using the MPS method was established. The predicted damping results were compared with experimental results. In addition, the effects of the axial length and frequency of the vessel on the damping performance was examined.
