Abstract

In recent years, research and development of autonomous driving technology is being conducted actively. Vehicle occupants require not only safety but also comfort in autonomous driving. To achieve comfortable autonomous driving, it is necessary to establish the objective evaluation indicators for the comfort of vehicle occupants. Therefore, this study aims to find those evaluation indicators, and we measured the physical behavior of the vehicle occupants during braking. Furthermore, in this study, we investigated the effect on the physical behavior during braking due to the presence of an obstacle in front of the vehicle. In the experiment, we used a real car and measured physical behavior using motion capture cameras and eye-tracking devices. By focusing on the movements of the shoulder and head, we found that there were participants in the experiment whose body movements became smaller when the obstacle was placed in front of them. Moreover, by focusing on the participants’ gaze position, we clarified that the change in these body movements was due to a change in gaze behavior.
