By describing product function and mechanism of failure into Top-Down Oriented Information Model, the authors developed the reliability design management system to analyze reliability of current design, and reflect the action to carry out high reliability into each design stage. In this paper, authors propose the product model that can describe product functions and failure mechanisms on each design stage, and the way to decompose product function and failure mechanism. In this system, product model, the failure model and functional model are represented into same network. By applying the reliability engineering methodologies in this information model, this system can provide the activity of design that can reduce failures or mitigate their effect from conceptual design stage.
