All the roads are covered with ice and snow in midwinter in northern cities with heavy snowfall, and the inhabitants have to face with various problems caused by the heavy snow. Pedestrians often slip on icy pedestrian crossings and the incidents sometime result in head and hip injuries. One way to maintain the safety should be using snow sleds on the winter road. The present paper studies how the various design aspects are considered in the development of the sleds to assist daily life and improve the quality of life in heavy snowfall area, like in Sapporo.
