Abstract
In the early process of design, not "optimal design" which derives a unique design solution by local search which passes through the top-down process but "emergent design" which derives diverse design solutions by global search which passes through a bidirectional process (top-down process and bottom-up process) is mainly performed. Based on the viewpoint of a multilevel design model, this paper describes the positioning of the "emergent design" in design process, the possibility of "emergent design" as the design method, and the outline of the emergent design system using the cellular automata which embedded the mechanism of morphogenesis.
