Abstract
Since the driver of vehicles gets most of necessary information by sight, visibility is very important for safety driving. During the driving of vehicles, two kinds of vision should be considered: one is direct vision from the eye point of a driver and the other is indirect vision using the mirror glasses located inside and outside the vehicles. This research focused on the former, direct vision, for a medium size commercial vehicle as an example, using vision analysis of computer software. The assessment of viewable and non-viewable areas at an traffic intersection, at where many accidents often occurred, was carried out considering the arrangement of the front pillars. Finally a design improvement was proposed.
