Abstract
Nowadays, there has been specialization of each design, constructing society fulfilled with mechanical products. In the meantime, it also complicated a process of sharing design purposes and concepts of value. The design problems have been caused by the fact that there is no common basic environment or foundation across each design field. One of the approaches to deal with the issues is to promote collaborative design. However, the existing design methods are not mainly considered to be created for the collaboration. Therefore, we aim to propose design methods corresponding to the use in the collaborative design. First, this paper classifies existing design methods, extracted from original articles written in various design fields, using the quantification theory class III and the cluster analysis. As the classification basis, "design thinking", which is a framework containing three design acts, is applied: "design problem analysis", "idea generation", and "idea evaluation". Second, it indicates the features of design methods necessary for facilitating the collaborative design. The result shows that 174 design methods are classified into 13 clusters. Along this classification, it is revealed that the expansion and proposition of design methods deemed appropriate to use in basic design are needed.
