Abstract
An escalator handrail is driven along guide frames by a handrail driving device. Frictional force between a handrail and guide frames becomes running resistance that is drive force needed for handrail. The new method to analyze the drive force of an escalator handrail was proposed by the authors before. This time, the newel deck frame was installed in the thermostatic chamber to measure the friction characteristics between the guide frame and a handrail when temperature and humidity are changed. Using the obtained results, influence of temperature and humidity on driving force was analyzed.
