Sustainable Marine City (SuMaC) is proposed as an experimental island of 800-900 ha with 39,000 residents for marine environmental education, research, and preservation of Osaka Bay. As a series of studies, effect of utilization of natural/unutilized energy system in SuMaC on the urban heat environment was discussed in this study. Numerical simulations were carried out by using the k-e turbulence model combined with a SIMPLE algorithm. It was assumed that utilization of the district heating and cooling system using seawater as a cool energy source reduced the anthropogenic heat generation by 40%. The urban environment in SuMaC, especially around Eco-Messe (the center of commerce in the city), at 14 : 00 in a typical summer day was calculated with (Case 2) or without (Case 1) the effect of the district heating and cooling system. As a result, the difference of temperature between Case 1 and Case 2 reached 11℃ at maximum.
