This research work involves development of chloride removal process that enables municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) fly ashes to be ready to use as an alternative raw material for cement production. Leaching experiments for 17 kinds of fly ashes revealed that only water washing does not satisfy the chloride removal rate of fly ashes requisite for cement raw material. Sparingly soluble chloride compounds, presumably Friedel’s salts, could be dissolved by CO2 bubbling treatment during second washing process, leading to improvement of chloride removal rate of fly ashes. Above discussed process is employed in practical scale plants at Kitakyusyu Ash Recycle systems Corporation (KARC).
