In recent years, there has been a growing need for contactless waste collection from the viewpoint of reducing the risk of infectious diseases. The authors have developed an autonomous robot and a reversing device as elemental technologies for contactless waste collection. This paper describes the results of a PoC demonstration of contactless waste collection conducted in cooperation with local governments and waste collection companies, and with the cooperation of residents, with a view to social implementation. This demonstration was conducted in two phases: verification of a series of operations from collection by container to autonomous running and reversing, and reversing of refuse into a waste collection truck using waste discarded by residents. As a result, the feasibility of the contactless waste collection was confirmed, and issues for practical application were identified.
