Abstract
Examples of the attempts to control separating flows that have been carried out in our lab. is presented. The separating flows include a flow over a forward-facing step, backward-facing step and a cavity. Basic concept of our control is to only change the phase of the periodic flow and not to change the frequency. Several types of actuators including a vibrating plate, a vibrating wire, PVDF, uni-morph type piezo-ceramic actuators and bi-morph type piezo-ceramic actuators are tested. The results show that a uni-morph type piezo-ceramic actuator gives the most promising results.
