This paper deals with quantitative image measurement of natural convection using color-stripes background oriented schlieren (CSBOS) method from heat generating source (candle flames) in natural atmosphere. The deviations of color stripes are measured and then interpolated for the remaining stripes to estimate integrated temperature gradient quantitatively in the image. Then these experimental two-dimensional (2D) data are applied for reconstruction of three-dimensional (3D) field of temperature gradient using algebraic reconstruction technique (ART). Here we have analyzed temperature gradient by using originally investigated and developed CSBOS technique and computed tomography (CT) method. Using ART we have been able to obtain 3D distribution information of temperature for convection parameters. The experimental results are discussed.
